The goal of the Memphis Strong Families Initiative (MSFI) is to improve the safety, permanency, and well-being of Memphis’ most vulnerable children/families through a sustainable model of interagency/organization communication, collaboration, and coordinated service delivery using trauma-informed practices. The Parent Partner is responsible for developing a trusting, supportive relationship with participant families to support them in their efforts to maintain housing stability, family unification and well-being.

Parent Partner responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide support services to approximately 30 clients as assigned. Support services will involve assisting family members in achieving goals of customized service plans, and ensuring access to appropriate resources and supports working from a “housing first” philosophy using trauma-informed practices.
• Assist families in connecting with resources and services providing troubleshooting and transportation when necessary.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with professionals and informal supports in the community.
• Work effectively with Family Advocates to ensure successful transition to Parent Partner. Keep Family Advocate informed of all problems and successes in families’ progress toward meeting goals of service plan.
• Participate and assist, as needed, in Nurturing Parent sessions, Family Support Meetings and Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• One to two years work experience preferred.
• First-hand experience with homelessness, domestic violence, mental/physical disabilities, substance abuse, etc. preferred.
• Compassionate understanding of the needs and challenges of vulnerable populations, both children and adults.
• Outstanding ability to gain trust and respect from individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences and disabilities including mental, physical, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, etc.
• Must possess an exceptional knowledge of community resources, particularly for homeless families.
• Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to perform daily duties to assist families and Family Advocate in achieving expected outcomes and performance measures with minimal supervision.
• Must authorize the release of any investigative and criminal records obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to the Tennessee Community Services Agency. Background investigation must indicate no conviction of a felony.
• Must be able to work flexible hours/days including evenings and weekends.
• Must have reliable transportation and automobile insurance.
